FEAR AND IGNORANCE AFTER 9/11

Iraq - The Great Mistake

August 24th, 2006

Iraq has gone so badly in absolutely every sense that it may have benifitted the administration by making the public numb. The failure to find the WMD for which the war was fought is hard to comprehend. Imagine if after going to war with Japan and bombing Hiroshima we realized that the destruction at Pearl Harbor had really been caused a series of gas leaks. Oops. Then factor in the poor intelligence, the poor planning, the stupid decisions, and what is almost assuredly going to be a tragic outcome, and that is simply too much failure for most people to process. System meltdown.

The President's ability to get the country on board for Iraq was a straightforward fear and ignorance play. They took our natural fear after 9/11, muddied the picture for us by constantly discussing Iraq and 9/11 as two related things, and then throwing in a few mushroom clouds for us to ponder. The danger was obvious and imminent. There was no time for vascillating. Like a used car salesmen who spots his pray, they told us we had to buy now before it was too late. Forever.

Dissenters were traitors. Weaklings who wanted to coddle the terrorists. Bush, Kerry, Gore, Iraq, Al Qaeda, Politics, Stem Cells, Abortion
